Filming starts in Stockport next week on new BBC comedy Undoing Martin Parker, starring Conleth Hill, Sian Gibson and Rosie Cavaliero.
The 6 x 30 series, from Boffola Pictures, is co-written by Gibson and Paul Coleman and is set in Manchester in 1990, the last days of Thatcher.
Hill plays Martin Parker, a swaggering, self-made impresario with a chain of electrical stores to his name. But behind the scenes, his life is crumbling – he is deep in debt with his private life unravelling. The series also stars George Costigan and Sheila Reid.
Gibson said of the commission: “Luckily, my fashion sense hasn’t changed since 1990 so it’s a dream to be reliving my youth and dusting off my crimpers with this amazing cast and wonderful team.”
Coleman added: “Thrilled to be writing this series and working with such a wonderfully talented cast, who are all helping us shine a much needed light on the themes of family feuds, revenge and top-loading VCRs.”
Gill Isles produces; Kate Daughton exec produces for Boffola alongside Tanya Qureshi for the BBC. The series is cop-produced with Lookout Point.
